Do You Know What "Hygge" Means?

Do you know that the happiest people in the world are Danes? Danes are the happiest people in the world despite their though geographical location and winter conditions. Well, what do you think could be the reason?

Sometimes they have long nights and sometimes the sky is always light. I have a small and awful experience with these conditions thanks to Poland. I lived in Poland for a year and during the winter I felt like a vampire bear. Yes, vampire bear. :) Because I just wanted to get sleep and when I woke up at 3 pm the sky was almost dark. It made me a more tired person. So, I can not imagine how Danes are feeling during this time. However, researches show us they are still happy. Hmm, I think I missed something out during my Poland time 😊
After a long time, I’ve just learned they have something special that keeps them positive and calm. It is called “HYGGE” (pronounced "hoo-gah"). Even when you write #hygge on Instagram you can find more than 8M posts. This is part of the culture of Scandinavian countries. Especially for Denmark but it’s getting more popular every day. Hygge is the mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. When we ask Danes there are no exact translations but it’s kind of the art of creating a cozy atmosphere. Hygge didn't originate in the Danish language but in old Norwegian, where it meant something like "well-being." It first appeared in Danish writing around the end of the 18th Century and the Danes have embraced it ever since.
So, let’s have a look at how we can feel hyggede.

1-The first thing to have hygge in your house tidy place.
Without a tidy place, it’s hard to keep your mind clear. So, we can start from here.
2- The important thing is candles! As we said, hygge means is to create a warm atmosphere and candles are the most useful things here. You can make warmer the place with candlelight or you can use soft lights, especially yellow lights!
Do you know that during December candle consumption raises around three times?

3- Use plants to feel alive, it can make you feel better as they are life pieces! Feel the growing up with them.
4-Blankets, Socks, and Sweater While creating a warm atmosphere, keep your body warm with the wool staff such as blankets and woolen jumpers. 5-Cook something you love Maybe cake and tea? Wouldn’t be good to eat and drink something you love? Especially teas can help you get more relaxed, peaceful, and calm. 6- Using wooden items can make you feel like in nature even if you don’t notice our body and mind need this by the time. That’s why we feel better in the forest, or with the forest sounds. 7- The last and the most enjoyable thing is Books! Choose what you love and jump into the new universe.
Also hanging out with friends or doing outdoor activities can make you feel hygge.
Sometimes we get tired of life. Our mind might need to take a rest. So hygge can help you to get more fresh mind and motivation for life. Good music, good food, good atmosphere bring you a clear mind. Sometimes, try to take your time for yourself and reward yourself with the hygge!
